I've only returned home, and gotten back into sporting news in the last 2 weeks...
What's the news on any potential A-League expansion...
Who might be involved, and how long will it take???

A few of my mates have been saying Townsville FC will be up by 2008???
This would be fantastic.. League is real big up here. It's crazy... I'm sure football will crack it tho... It is the superioir game after all :P

I honestly can't see another franchise being accepted in the league until the end of the first 5 year plan.

I hope they leave it be for a while. There isn't enough talent interested in playing in our A-League yet to keep the standard high if we expand.

If they expand it too soon it will turn out like the NSL.

Canberra will get a team back and IMO for australian soccers best interests canberra should have two teams eventually. A franchise like the cosmos back and the AIS should have a junior squad entered in the comp.

I'm really pretty certain Canberra doesn't need two teams

Agree, with dougz, lets not go back to the NSL days.

I say a promotion/relegation system would be better.

they will get a franchise gaurenteed galahs.

and AIS squad would be the best thing for australias future in regards to bringing young talent up to squad (if we dont invest in a NATIONAL youth league)

Where is the AIS headquarters galahs? so where has the best facilities in the country to run a club like that? If the AIS team was viable to run being based elsewhere I would be all for it. But the best place to base that squad is Canberra.

I agree we should definately have a team down here, my only question is would there be enough interest to sustain two? I was disappointed to see only about 7,000 turn up to the pre season game between Sydney FC and Newcastle. I was at the game and only one side of the stadium had anybody in it.

However as you said with the AIS we would have arguably the best facilities of any team in the comp. Also Canberra Stadium would be a great football stadium.

it was a poor turn out, but 7k was certainly better then most places for a pre season game.

I think you give Canberra back a franchise and it would make money.

An AIS youth side is not in the comp to be professionally franchised more for the good of the game in this country and as a direct pathways for talented young players to stay and play in this country. the AFA would bankroll a club like that and I feel that it would also be in the green with a few years to establish itself.

An AIS team is not directly competing against another Canberra franchise, it is in fact just complimenting it and bringing in more support from the region/country

well base an AIS squad out of there then.

There is multi millions of dollars invested into the Canberra AIS infastructure of which soccer is a very large part already.

I just want to see an AIS squad in this comp as it would benifit aus soccer and ATM the best place for that to be based is canberra
