Rate them all except the last one. That Cup race still leaves a dirty taste in my mouth. |

That finish by Lonhro in the Australian Cup is the single greatest effort I think I've seen. I can watch it over and over and still get chills, and what great calling by Greg Miles too. "There's the gap coming for Lonhro, Sound Action tries to pocket him, Beadman in a bit of trouble trying to force through! He got checked the champ!! And Sound Action hit the front from Mummify, Lonhro the champ is in desperate trouble, now Delzeao's gone past him!! 150 to go, he's gone to the outside. Delzao in front, the crowd roaring go Lonhro go!!! But the three year old's in front. Lonhro!!! He's coming!!!!!!! He's gonna get there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES!!! !!!!!!! Lonhro won it!!! What a champion, what a way to go!!!!!!" Awesome. |

I allways wonder in the cox plate , had Northerly not raced, would Defier and Grand Armee have caught Sunline, because that was extremely high paced and nobody else challenged Sunline to make it high paced, and she was near invincible on a slow paced race. |

I don't think so as Grand Armee only started winning big races after all the champions starting retiring or taking off overseas. As far as Defier i regard him like Shogun Lodge always run a honest race but just short of being a champion. |

Being like Shogun Lodge is nothing to be ashamed of. I've never seen a stayer with such a good spurt. As for Gran Armee, I saw it beat off Lonrho a couple of times, and it won the QE stakes by about six lengths one year when there were plenty of other strong horses in it. |

I'm not saying Shogun Lodge wasn't a good horse but he wasn't quite a champion. A different era maybe he would be ranked higher. Same with Grand Armee was a perenial place getter in Group 1's and only seemed to win the big races when many retired or left. The day it beat Lohnro his career was on the downward slide. |

He actually beat Lonrho three times, the famous one was Lonrhos final start. But it actually finished infront of Lonrho quite a number of times. |

Hmmm... He was only starting to take on the top grade after Northerly and Sunline had left. The only big names which survived that he competed against were Fields Of Omagh and Lonhro. Gai was just very astute with her placement of the horse. She gets ALOT of shit. But she's as smart as they come. Grand Armee was unlucky not to have won a Cox Plate. That race was one of Olivers most... questionable rides. He only improved as he got older, he could only beat what was put in front of him and he did that in style. Beaten 2L by our greatest ever staying mare in a BMW, unlucky not to win the '04 Doncaster when coming from barrier 16 in the toughest mile race in our country and was only beaten by a very classy horse. Safe to say his only two genuine failures were in the Emirates when near last as favourite - on a heavy track! and in the Caulfield Cup, when at that stage of his career, the odds were stacked against him. And still he was a many time G1 winner of some of our best races. He was a champion, no doubt... but not quite up there with our greatest. After saying all that shit though Lonhro was a better horse. Our WFA and racing stocks in general have been down since the glory days of Occy, Sunline, Northerly, Might And power etc. Which is a sad occurence. All our good ones seem to be retired to stud early, sold off overseas, or not given the time to mature in search of 2yo riches. |

I'm not denying Grand Armee was a good horse but to be called a champion which was happening at the time was over the top. |
