RICHMOND and Terry Wallace are believed to have parted ways after a series of meetings yesterday and last night.
It is believed the players were upset about Wallace's post-match critique of the team after Sunday's loss to Port Adelaide.
Wallace did not return calls from the Herald Sun last night.
Players yesterday, led by captain Chris Newman, spoke to Wallace about the closed-doors post-match address and it's understood Wallace has walked from the job, believing the players had lost faith in him.
The veteran coach was not immediately available for comment, failing even to return calls from close friends last night and this morning.
Has the right decision been made? Have your say below.
Wallace has been under enormous pressure since an embarrassing loss to Carlton in Rd 1 and his team is languishing in 15th position with just one win.
Wallace did not arrive at the club's Punt Rd headquarters today by his usual time of 8.30am.
Richmond assistant coaches David King, Craig McRae, Wayne Campbell and Jade Rawlings arrived at Punt Rd this morning unaware any decision on the head coach had been made.
Players spoken to by the Herald Sun were also not aware of any developments.
President Gary March also did not return calls this morning.
Wallace is in the fifth your of a five-year contract and was no chance to coach the team in 2010.
It is known that Wallace met with Richmond chief executive Steven Wright late last night.
Wallace only last week went on radio and declared he wanted to coach out the year.
In the same interview he said he would not put up a fight if the club decided to end his tenure early. Richmond president Gary March, Wallace and Wallace's closet football friend, Brian Royal, were not answering their phones this morning.
The club is due to train at its Punt Rd home at 11am.
About time!

Wallace is now staying on:

Richmond have confirmed that Terry Wallace will remain coach of the Tigers, denying earlier reports which claimed he was parting ways with the club.
Wallace and the club were reported earlier on Tuesday to have parted ways in the wake of the three-point loss to Port Adelaide on Sunday, their seventh defeat in eight AFL matches this year.
Tigers football manager Craig Cameron denied the club had sacked and then reinstated Wallace, saying at no time was Wallace not the coach of the football club.
"There was no point in time when Terry wasn't the coach of Richmond," Cameron said.
Captain Chris Newman also denied players were unhappy with Wallace following the Port Adelaide loss, saying both the coach and players were upset.
Newman claimed players had never told the Richmond board they had lost faith in their coach.
An open and frank meeting was held on Tuesday morning between Wallace, Newman, Cameron and president Gary March. Both Cameron and Newman refused to outline the specifics of the meeting during an address to the media.
Wallace has previously admitted he would be out of a job this season if he did not coach the Tigers into the finals in the fifth and final year of his current contract.
The Tigers are 15th and seemingly out of contention to play in the finals.
But Newman said he and the rest of the players expected Wallace to be coaching for the rest of the season and beyond.
“The players do,” he said.
“The players can't think about Terry's future, the players have got a job to do and all we can focus on this week is the Essendon footy club.”

The media saw that Wallace and the leadership group were not at training so therefore they decided that he must have been fired. To be fair though they tried to call him but got no reply so that was confirmation of it. It was a story with no substance that was growing so the club called a press conference so that was even more proof. All worked out for the media until the club explained.
The club sits 1-7 and lost a game they should not have lost so a meeting was called amongst the leadership group the coach and other club executives. The meeting took longer than it was thought it would take hence the players missing training. Wallace does not always attend Tuesday trainings but when taken all together it was enough for the journo's to run with. Unusual to have a meeting like that granted but considering where the club is currently situated not surprising that it took place.
I was listening to SEN and they were saying that they ran with the story because certain journo's had broken the story so they went with it without checking anything or trying to. Kudo's to them for admitting it though. Mark Robinson the journo who broke the story also admitted he got it wrong but stopped short of apologising but then again Robbo doesn't like Richmond.

Terry Wallace has announced his intention to stand down as Richmond coach, two days after the Tigers recorded just their second win of the premiership season.
Wallace will stand down after coaching the side against Western Bulldogs on Friday night.
Richmond president Gary March said the club and Wallace had come to a "mutual agreement" that he stand down.
That decision was made on Sunday night, after the Tigers returned from Perth, where they beat Fremantle by three points on Saturday night.
Wallace was appointed on a five-year contract, starting with the 2005 season, but he has failed to take Richmond to the finals in his four completed seasons.
The Tigers recorded their best finish under Wallace in 2006 and 2008, when they finished ninth.
Richmond have reached only three finals series since their 1980 premiership win, the last in 2001.
Wallace conceded before this season began that he had to lead the Tigers into the 2009 finals for him to earn another contract.
He said on Monday that he would be unlikely to be given a coaching chance at another club.
