Nadal is going for 5 in a row yea? Amazing.. With Fed's win in Madrid last week, he will get the #2 seed. I think there were doubts whether it would be Novak or Fed, which is huge as nobody wants to play Raffa in the semi. Here's hoping another Raffa/Fed grand slam final  and another epic Hope Fed can stop the recent trend of French Open/Wimbledon recently in the last couple of years Edited by Mao, May 21 2009, 03:44 AM.

 I wonder if he can keep his semi final streak alive.. Although he is still the 2nd or at worse 3rd best clay courter going round Edited by Mao, May 21 2009, 09:33 AM.

He has never been a bad clay courter by any means Laurry (Fed) but remember, he played about 5 French Opens before Nadal came along and still didn't win one. |

I think he started to peak (atleast on clay) when Raffa came though. If it weren't for Raffa he'd have atleast 2 RG's you can comfortably say. (or however many times hes played him in final) He's no Sampras when it comes to clay, which makes sense as he was bought up on clay actually. |

Yeah there is no doubt he can play on it, just don't think he's unquestionable the second best necassarily. Nadal himself has knocked out some pretty bloody good players in semis and quarters that would have beaten or at leats gone close to Federer. |

like who? the likes of Kuerton Gaudio and Coria etc. are not to be seen recently Djokovic could well be #2... but Madrid may have changed that just at the right time for Fed ... its only between those two i think and also in recent times when you look at the 3 atp 1000 masters tournaments in Rome Hamburg and Monte Carlo, Fed's name pops out a lot in finals and in Hamburg particularly he has the best record of any player (including Raffa) in the last 4 or 5 years Edited by Mao, May 21 2009, 01:05 PM.

Guys like Del Potro, Gonzales, Verdasco and a handful of others. Federer has built a stronger record overall than any of them on clay by virtua of a heap of French finals, but he generally has the luxury of ALWAYS being on the opposite side to Nadal in the draw. Other players don't have that guarantee. |

Atm you would back Fed to beat all of them on clay, with Verdasco being a tough game. All those are young fishes/late bloomers on the tour..so yea hmm. Infact Fed beat Del potro and Gonzalez within two days in Madrid i think recently |

A. Because Hamburg is the quickest clay court surface of all the MS events. B. It was always the last one to be held, meaning Rafa had played a ton of matches beforehand and would generally be exhausted, as he was in Madrid. Rafa will cruise to #5, just hoping Djoko is on Fed's side. |
