In all forms of sports, neutral fans who go to the ground to watch the game but not support a team are in the vast minority. Most sports, whether it be cricket, rugby league, or ice hockey is boring and repetitive to the average person without an emotional tie to a team being present. Nearly everybody at a 20/20 match will be their desperately cheering for their team, not just watching the sixes, just like at an ice hockey match and just like the tour de france. Of course, there are hard core fans of a sport that can sit through a match without supporting a single team, but like hard core fans of everything they don't number very many. |
