Which will = WA once Gayle goes there.

For the record, I don't go for Vic or Qld when they're playing NSW, nor WA unless North is playing for them.

Soft spot for Tassie via Boonie, soft spot for South Australia via Lehmann.

Western Australia have scored the cricketing coup of the year, securing West Indies captain Chris Gayle for this summer's domestic Twenty20 competition.

Gayle, one of the biggest and cleanest hitters in the game, has taken a particular liking to Twenty20 cricket.

In 12 Twenty20 internationals, the 29-year-old left-hander has plundered 454 runs at a phenomenal average of 41.27, while also snaring seven wickets at 27 apiece.

"Given the profile and the importance of the KFC Big Bash competition ... it presents an exciting opportunity for WA cricket fans to catch a glimpse of one of the world's premier Twenty20 cricketers," Warriors coach Tom Moody said.

"Chris will provide a tremendous boost to the Warriors' Big Bash campaign, and having missed out on the the opportunity to compete at the first Champions League Twenty20, we are determined to do all that we can to give ourselves a great chance of qualifying for the 2010 edition of the tournament."

Today was confirmation that the IPL is a joke. WA also wanted Gilly to go with Gayle but he told them he was now retired. He will still be playing IPL though.

I don't understand it - a guy who 2 weeks ago was being talked about as a potential saviour for the AUSTRALIAN T20 side (Gilchrist) basically commits himself to the IPL ahead of the Big Bash and that actually takes AWAY from the seriousness of the IPL?

Call me an idiot - which you will in any reply no doubt - but doesn't that actually make the Big Bash look like more of a joke than the IPL?

No. To me it looks like the IPL is a nice retirement village where there is no pressure to perform.

So it looks like Menthis or whatever his name is to South Aussie, Freddy to Qld.

Good to see all the other states who bagged NSW for bring in McCullum also bring in their imports.

The other states didn't give a f*ck about them signing an import, they gave a f*ck about them bringing in a ring-in for one game.
