I'm the Best man for a Wedding next year and have organised the Bucks trip to head to Melbourne for Derby Day weekend. So pumped up for it. Never been to Melbourne for Spring Carnival so cannot wait. Have to make sure we don't spend too much cash at the Casino on the Friday night.

Anyone here been ? Someone mentioned that you have to pre-purchase tickets to get in nowadays ?

Should be massive :)

:drink:  :drink:  :yeah:

Went there in 1999 and caught the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate among others. Not sure. Someone gave me tickets for some ( Accessed different areas ) and I just turned up for the Cox Plate.

The Cox Plate had heaps of full boxes so maybe go to the VRC website if you want one.

Been twice (to Cup), pre purchased tickets in the Carbine Marquee which is next to the river. You get your own tote and bookmaker facilities, transfers to and from the event, lunch etc, and seats in the Lawn stand on the track so you can choose when you want to actually go and watch a race.

I think it was around $275/head but in that link they are quoting $395/head, for Derby day $320.

When you consider the cost of entry and the fact you have a grandstand seat it really isnt that bad imo. Mind you we only used the grandstand seat for the Cup itself and spent the rest of the time at the Carbine (which is a walk to the track), and trackside.

How much is entry ? Not sure if all the boys would be up for that. I would easily as its hard to get a bet on from what I've heard.

Im not sure mate, but if we were going to go all that way to celebrate an Aussie tradtion I wanted to do it in style. The ease of betting was a great attraction as was seeing the big race from the best grandstand on the finish line.

Yeah I might put it to the boys but knowing a few of them I doubt it. Can't hurt to try though. Few people I've spoken to said its VERY hard to get a bet on and that you are better off putting your bets on before the day.

I'm going to Derby Day as well. I guess if admission was around $100 then it would seem a pretty good idea especially with everything that comes with it.

Carbine Club looks good but not sure if it would be suitable for a bucks weekend...

Well we aren't too far away and I haven't been this excited about a weekend for a long time. Finally getting to the Spring Carnival in Melbourne. I've got a fair bit of cash but I've also put some dollars into the Phone TAB account in case I can't get on in time.

I looked into getting a limo for after the races to take us to the Casino and the kcufers were booked out.

There was going to be a horse running in the Mackinnon called "Big Col" (who is my mates nickname) but its actually running today in the Bendigo Cup. Would have been a great omen bet but Ive backed it E/W today ($5.50 in paper).

Just found out that the bucks I'm going on will take in Mooney Valley on November 28. The invite email I got just says - rather ominously - "we will be in general admission rather than any VIP area, purely because of what Duncan is going to have to wear."
