Gotta say, pathetic effort from them. Take out Dhoni, and Tendulkar's lone big innings, and probably Harbhajan and Jadeja and they have been farking rubbish.

Bring back Rahul.

India have shown what a one-dimensional side they are. Their batting inspires awe, their bowling has promise, but they are so short of the professionalism of the Australians, New Zealanders, South Africans and the Sri Lankans, it is quite baffling.

Unfortunately, the game these days is so utterly dependent on a successful India that we can expect a pretty dull World Cup merely designed to ensure India are there in the last four.

Putting that aside, I think Ravindra Jadeja looks a fine cricketer. You can see him confidently flight the ball well and not be afraid to take some punishment. He looks a decent fielder and a handy lower order player, if only he can get his running between the wickets right. But at 20, he does seem to have something about him that makes even Warney rate him quite highly.

For India's sake, it's important they don't go back to Rahul Dravid. It would be another backflip that would undermine both the great man himself and the players trying to fill his void. If India want their young players to succeed, then they have to put up with their shortcomings. Suresh Raina is a fine batsman and will become better if he has the chance to learn from his failures, and not be damned at the first sign of underperformance.

As for Australia, what can I say? Ponting is starting to create his own true legacy as a leader by the way he's maximising the performance of his players. As I said before, you can't even consider demoting him when he has this ability to bring up a new batch of players to the fold.

Now the interesting thing for Hilditch will be what to do when the main cavalry return. It's important that while the back up players go back to state cricket, they are still given opportunities this summer during the home ODI series in preparation for the World Cup.

All in all, a great series for us. Let's hope the boys get past Bombay with little damage and they return home with a chance to rest a little...

Who are the main cavalry that will walk straight back in though? Lee you'd assume, probably Hopes and Haddin, really that is probably about it. The batting in particular looks pretty close to full strength. I'm not undermining the injuries Australia has suffered but most of the players there have done enough that they will keep their spots anyway.

Clarke, Bracken, Haddin would all be guaranteed a spot. Hopes and Lee probably aswell...

Edit: Ferguson aswell

Ah forgot Clarke. I don't know about Bracken - I rate him very highly but I have a feeling he'll be an unlucky ommission. You can't really drop Hauritz, they have a horn for Lee, Bollinger (shudder) would be desperately unlucky to be dropped now, and Johnson is not going anywhere.

Bracken has a superb record but I have a feeling his status as not being a golden boy will count against him.

If Lee breaks down again they might put him out to pasture though.

They probably won't have a choice - his recent record of fitness reads like a Shane Bond career diary so any more major ones and he'll maybe even make the decision for them.

I agree, he should get a 12th chance to come back in to the team but if he breaks down again it will be unlucky 13.

It's not like he has the excuse of fatigue either, he'd only played one day cricket in the past year.
