OBITUARIES
The golf world is in mourning after the passing of golfing great Lafferty, Daniel.
Lafferty, Daniel was hit by a falling satellite while practicing his putting at the Waterbury Golf Complex early yesterday morning ahead of another tilt at the Waterbury Open next week.
The falling space junk not only cost Lafferty, Daniel his life, but also the $3.50 he was charged to use the practice greens at the facility.
His caddy was lucky to escape injury having been allocated to Lafferty, Daniel, because on the Pro Tour you supply your own caddy but not at the Waterbury Open.
Lafferty, Daniel was most famous for his narrow defeat to Happy Gilmore at the 1996 edition of the event where a last-hole meltdown almost cost Gilmore his shot at the Pro Tour and subsequent Gold Jacket like Chubbs Petersen never got.
He was well remembered for his self-deprecating attitude to his golf, and was once heard telling a fellow player that his opening shot was "probably the only good one he'll hit all day" after being forced to wait to tee off because his playing partner didn't get out of the way.
He was also famous for staying silent on the issue of whether Grizzly Adams had a beard or not, something for which fellow golfer Lee Trevino campaigned for many years.
He is survived by his wife Lafferty, Mrs and sons Lafferty, Samuel and Lafferty, Manuel.
